Serie A stays on pay TV

Serie A games will remain exclusively on pay-TV platforms after the competition authority dashed the government’s free-to-air plans.

Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora had been working on a deal for some matches to be made freely available to Italian households.

Sky and DAZN, which own the rights to show live Serie A football until 2021, were prepared to show Verona-Cagliari and Torino-Parma this evening on digital terrestrial and YouTube respectively.

However, the Italian Competition Authority ruled it would have unfairly taken viewers away from other channels.

Instead, state broadcaster Rai will only be allowed to show highlights from the earlier time of 20:30 BST as of next Tuesday.

Watch Serie A live in the UK on Premier Sports for just £11.99 per month including live LaLiga, Eredivisie, Scottish Cup Football and more. Visit:
