Jim Ryan is expecting the PS5 to surpass its predecessor in the early years.

While Sony stumbled somewhat with the PS3 (though the system was ultimately a success), there’s no doubt they saw about the biggest recovery possible with the PS4. The system has been a supercharged success for the company, blasting past the 100 million mark and still selling. It’s put Sony in a good position as their PS5 will launch this year, and the CEO of PlayStation seems to be feeling pretty good about it.

In an interview with Naver, Ryan spoke in length about the system’s upcoming launch, particularly how it related to the Korean fans of the brand. He also said he sees the PS5 selling more than its predecessor did in its first fiscal year. Earlier in the year, it was reported that Sony had cut production orders, but Sony later denied the story saying they hoped to have 15 million units produced within the first fiscal year.

Whether or not the PS5 can replicate the success of the PS4 remains to be seen, but at the very least, they are starting from a strong position. The PS5 will launch in select regions November 12th with a full worldwide launch a week later on the 19th.
