Kelly Clarkson has left fans in tears following a powerful rendition of the Etta James song I’d Rather Go Blind amid her ongoing divorce.
On Friday Kelly marked Juneteenth – the celebration of the end of slavery in the USA on 19 June 1865 – by singing a cover of Etta James’ classic break up song.
But with her divorce announced just one week earlier, many fans felt the powerful performance reflected the singers’ heartache.
I’d Rather Go Blind includes poignant lyrics including: “So you see, I love you so much/That I don’t want to watch you leave me baby/Most of all, I just don’t/ I just don’t want to be free no.”
After Kelly shared her soaring rendition via social media, one fan tweeted: “This totally broke my heart for her but when kelly sings soul it makes wanna live one more day.”
Another wrote: “Damn guuurl. That made me cry. I felt that one. Love you Kelly.”
Another typed: “Honestly I feel her speaking through her music. I can’t imagine why she’s getting divorced. I feel so devastated for her but at the same time empowered too. She’s amazing.”
Other fans offered further support, with one tweeting: “LOVE N LIGHT to you and your babies!!!! My heart goes out to you all.”
Kelly shocked fans last week when it emerged she had called time on her 6-year marriage to Brandon.
Reports have since emerged that the couple had been “clashing” after moving from Nashville to Hollywood where Kelly presents a talk show.
Brandon is said to “prefer their quiet life in Nashville”, according to a source who spoke to Us Weekly.
The insider added: “They clashed on so many levels, and being in quarantine together heightened their problems to the point of no return.”
They continued: “Everyone thought Kelly and Brandon had the perfect marriage, but they definitely didn’t.”
