Iowa reports 775 new positive coronavirus cases, 1 additional death

The Iowa Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported 775 new positive coronavirus cases and one additional death.As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, IDPH reported a total of 76,050 positive cases, 55,005 recoveries and 1,234 deaths since the pandemic began. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, IDPH had reported 75,275 total positive cases and 1,233 deaths.A total of 712,919 Iowans have been tested for coronavirus. IDPH reported 5,164 lab test results received in the previous day, with 511 positive results. IDPH receives test results from prior days that add to the overall total. The state reports a positivity rate of 8.5% over the last 14 days. One of four Iowans have been tested for COVID-19, while one of 42 have tested positive. Antigen testing continues to add to IDPH data, with a total of 17,221 individuals tested, with 2,171 positive antigen tests.There are currently five Iowa counties reporting a positivity rate greater than 15% over the last 14 days, up one from the previous day. Public schools in Sioux, Lyon, Plymouth, Henry and O’Brien counties can apply for a waiver to offer 100% virtual learning, among other considerations. Sioux County reports a 26.4% positivity rate. IDPH data shows there are currently 291 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 284 the previous day. There are currently 79 patients listed in intensive care, up from 74 the previous day. There are 32 patients on ventilators, up from 29 the previous day. There were 44 patients admitted in the last 24 hours, up from 36 the previous day. IDPH reported approximately 2,900 available hospital beds, with 427 ICU beds and 780 ventilators available.There are now 38 long-term care facilities reporting COVID-19 outbreaks in the state of Iowa, up from 36 the previous day. IDPH reported 900 positive cases within those facilities, with 440 recoveries. There have been 653 deaths in Iowa’s long-term care facilities, accounting for more than half of the deaths in the state.The Iowa Department of Public Health offers coronavirus information on this website dashboard.
