HT: Perin keeps Juventus out

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin has parried everything coming his way so far from his former Juventus teammates, denying Cristiano Ronaldo, Federico Bernardeschi and Paulo Dybala.

The Bianconeri needed a victory to maintain the four-point lead at the top of the table, as Lazio had already won 2-1 at Torino earlier this evening. Meanwhile, the Grifone were one point above the relegation zone thanks to a comeback from 2-0 down to hold bottom club Brescia.

Maurizio Sarri was without Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro, Sami Khedira, Mattia De Sciglio and Merih Demiral, while Miralem Pjanic started just 24 hours after signing for Barcelona. Domenico Criscito and Ivan Radovanovic missed out for the hosts, but they had several ex-Juve players, including Mattia Perin, Cristian Romero and Stefano Sturaro.

Juve have traditionally struggled at Marassi, losing three of their last six Serie A visits.

Perin was kept busy from the start, using his legs to parry a Federico Bernardeschi snapshot, then palming away the Cristiano Ronaldo scorcher. Matthijs de Ligt had penalty appeals waved away for an Adama Soumaoro nudge in the back, but it was one-way traffic with Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Bernardeschi all having pot-shots at Perin.

Andrea Favilli was fortunate not to receive a second yellow card on the half-hour mark, having already clattered Leonardo Bonucci’s ankles after seven minutes, as he caught De Ligt late in midfield.

Adrien Rabiot’s header was straight at the goalkeeper, although Genoa finally had some attacks just before half-time, with Favilli’s angled drive wide after he’d been flagged offside and Pinamonti’s shot deflected wide.

Dybala threaded through for Ronaldo, who stung Perin’s gloves at the near post from the tightest of angles.
