Meet Joe Biden’s Grandchildren, Beau and Hunter Biden’s Children

Published

presidential candidate joe biden holds caucus day event in las vegas

President-elect Joe Biden’s children have made headlines plenty of times in recent years, especially after his son, Hunter, ended up in the middle of President Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial and with a paternity scandal of his own. Hunter’s older brother, Beau, the former attorney general of Delaware, passed away in late May of 2015 from brain cancer. Barack Obama delivered a eulogy at his funeral.

The Biden family are no strangers to tragedy and grief. Joe’s daughter, Naomi, and his first wife, Neilia, died in a car crash in 1971. Biden later went on to marry Jill Jacobs (now known as Dr. Jill Biden), with whom he shares a daughter named Ashley.

While we will surely see a lot of Biden’s kids throughout his administration, there are some other members of the family tree worth watching out for, too. His six grandchildren, who were all featured in this Vogue profile on their grandmother in March, range in age from newborn to 26 years old. Some have shown up in news stories and at campaign rallies, but for the most part, you can find them on Naomi Biden’s Instagram account. The oldest of the grandchildren has posted several heartwarming cousin moments on her account, which prove that this group, who’ve spent their lives in the public spotlight, is tight.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last March, Biden told the late-night host that during quarantine he socially distanced with Natalie and Hunter, Beau’s children who live near him in Delaware.

“They walk over through the woods and through a neighborhood, and they sit out in the backyard in two chairs, and I sit up in the porch, and we have our conversations, because I’m not allowed to go hug them. I miss it.”

Meet the Biden grandchildren.

Naomi is the oldest Biden grandchild and was born in December 1993. She is the daughter of Joe’s son Hunter and his first wife, Kathleen. She is named after Hunter and Beau’s sister, Naomi Christina, who was killed in a car crash with her mother, Neilia, in November 1971. She’s the only Biden grandchild who has a public Instagram account, where she posts cute family snaps like this one, with her cousin, Natalie (16). She got her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2016 in the same class as Tiffany Trump. Naomi studied international relations in college and graduated Columbia Law School in May during a virtual ceremony where her grandfather was a guest speaker. She’s dating Peter Neal, who’s a student at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Together, Naomi and Neal made a website that helps Americans learn how to gain access to their stimulus money during the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s also a supporter of her grandfather’s bromance with Barack Obama.

Naomi can also be found providing colorful commentary on Twitter. “tweets permanently pending approval,” her bio reads, jokingly addressing the spotlight on her social media. As a member of a high-profile political family, her tweets do offer insight into the Bidens’ daily lives. On Oct. 31, she shared that the family was listening to “The Man” by the Killers. During the Oct. 22 debate, Naomi tweeted, “my pop is making the same faces as when I make him watch reality tv.” And on Oct. 30, she retweeted Trump’s assertion that he’s “Way ahead in Texas!” writing, “narrator: he was not way ahead in Texas.”

When Biden’s victory in the presidential election was announced, Naomi captured an intimate hug with her family, including Joe. “11.07.20,” she captioned the snap.

Finnegan Biden

Finnegan is the second daughter of Hunter Biden and his first wife, Kathleen. She was born in 2000 and named after Joe’s mother, Jean Finnegan. She was photographed at the White House during her grandfather’s term as vice president but first came into wide public attention when she attended Joe Biden’s rally last year at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Finnegan is now a junior at UPenn.

Maisy Biden

Maisy is Naomi and Finnegan’s youngest sister. She was born in 2001, and she’s the same age as Sasha Obama. Joe told The Hill in 2019 that his family and the Obamas had a joint graduation party for Maisy and Sasha when they graduated Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., where Maisy played lacrosse, soccer, and basketball. “Her best friend is Sasha Obama. Barack and Jill and the whole family, we had a whole get together,” Biden told a crowd in Davenport, Iowa.

He skipped the Iowa Democrats Hall of Fame dinner last June to attend Maisy’s graduation and celebrate his daughter Ashley’s birthday. “One of my competitors criticized me for not going to Iowa to talk for five minutes,” he said. “My granddaughter was graduating. It was my daughter’s birthday. I would skip inauguration for that.”

Maisy also maintains an active presence on TikTok, regularly sharing content with her more than 145K followers. In November, she posted a rare video of herself doing artwork with her father, Hunter.

Natalie is the oldest child of the late Joseph Robinette ‘Beau’ Biden III and his wife, Hallie. She is 16 years old and was featured in a clip introducing Dr. Jill Biden’s speech at the DNC on Tuesday night. “I would say she’s not your average grandmother,” she said of her grandma, per Today. “She’s a prankster, she’s very mischievous. When she goes on a run, sometimes she’ll find like a dead snake and she’ll pick it up and put it in a bag and she’ll use it to scare someone.”

Beau Biden’s second child goes by Hunter and was born in 2006, making him 14 years old. He’s named after his uncle and seems quite content to be surrounded by the many women in his cousin lineup.

New Baby Boy Biden

Joe Biden’s son Hunter previously dated his brother’s widow, Hallie Biden, following Beau’s death, but reports of their split surfaced in May 2019. He reportedly tied the knot with South Africa native Melissa Cohen that same month, six days after they met. They welcomed a baby last March. Cohen’s brother told the New York Post that the baby is a
“beautiful and healthy baby boy.” The couple was spotted on a hike in Los Angeles with their newborn in June.

Hunter also welcomed a child in 2018 with Lunden Alexis Roberts. Although he initially denied being the father of Roberts’ baby, a paternity case found that he is the “biological and legal father.”

André Leon Talley Is the New Face of Ugg

Published

on

andré leon talley

Under normal circumstances, asking the question, “How are you?” would likely render a habitual response. “Fine.” But as 2020—and the first few weeks of 2021—proved, there’s nothing normal about the current state of the world. Posing the same question to the famed fashion editor and author of The Chiffon Trenches: A Memoir, André Leon Talley takes me on a roller coaster of emotions that perfectly captures what we’re all feeling.

“Awful,” he starts, referring to the violent insurrection that took place at the U.S Capitol just five days before our conversation. Then comes the high points: He’s “optimistic” about the new administration. “What gives me hope for the future is President-elect Joe Bide and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. In with the new administration and out with an old, monstrous, fascist one,” he says. Talley’s also excited about what Bridgerton adds to diversity in television. “Shonda Rhimes, a Black woman, has redefined TV British costume drama, and brilliantly.” But most of all, Talley is feeling the love.

The legendary creative director is the newest star of Ugg’s ongoing FEEL campaign series, which spotlights the inspiring stories of icons from various industries. An icon in his own right for his decades-spanning career and impact in fashion, it might come as a surprise that Talley has been a longtime fan of the comfy footwear brand. Talley previously made headlines for pairing high fashion looks with Ugg boots while sitting front row at fashion week, and even stated that the brand is “as chic as heels for women.”

In the campaign, Talley takes us to his humble abode in White Plains, NY where he poses in the Ugg Neumel boot in one photo, and the Tasman slippers in another—with appearances from his signature fire red Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat and trademark cape. Tucked away inside his living room, Talley talks about his relationship with Ugg, his trademark uniform, and what being Black in fashion means today.

As someone who is always in an elaborate cape or coat, you’re like the poster child for coziness.

Cozy gives you security. Cozy affords you to be comfortable enough to project your best self to the world.

Is that why you chose the Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat for the campaign?

Of course. I have three red Norma Kamali coats. It basically serves as hugs for comfort. You can go out in a blizzard and you’ll be very, very warm in them. It’s oversized. It gives me a sense of being cocooned in a blanket. It’s a blanket that is thermally warm and light. It doesn’t weigh 10 pounds on your body.

How do you build your outfits? Coat first, everything else after?

The base is my coat and my boots and I build it around that. I don’t have to think about my clothes, I have a uniform. I have shirts made in North Africa, I wear them every day. My accessories are beautiful hats, mostly bought in London at Lock & Co. There’s a special caftan made for me by Tom Ford, and Gucci, and a lady in Nigeria who makes very beautiful caftans. Her name is Patience Torlowei. She makes me beautiful caftans, embroidered, special pieces, but I wear the same thing almost every day.

What’s your earliest memory of Ugg footwear?

My earliest memory of Uggs is probably about ten years ago. When they first came out with something for men, it was the slip-on boots, and I loved it. I had mine monogrammed, and they were just the boots that I went to because I’m at fashion week, running around, and they provided comfort. Listen, I have the most beautiful shoes in the world. I’ve got Tom Ford, I’ve got Berluti shoes, I’ve got Manolo Blahnik bespoke shoes—all those shoes are quite elegant. But when you have been running around fashion week, that Ugg is the utilitarian boot with style. It’s chic and comfortable with a capital “C.”

What’s the significance of shooting on your porch?

It’s my favorite part of my house. I entertain during the pandemic on the porch, during the warm weather. I did all my lunches and dinners outside on the porch because that was the social protocol to avoid COVID. The porch is a symbol of who I am because the porch is part of the Southern way I grew up. We could sit on the porch, all afternoon when it was very hot, and have family over, and talk. When I decided I was going to do this campaign, I wasn’t going to go into town, they had to come to my house. But I wasn’t going to allow them in, so the only practical place was to be outside on the porch.

Reflecting on your career, how did being the sole Black editor at the helm of a prestigious publication strengthen your ambitions?

It kept me going. I kept getting up every morning and doing the job as best I could, as best I knew how. I tried to represent my race. I felt it was very powerful to be in that position and I always kept a positive outlook. I kept going, kept going, kept going. I am most proud of my time at Vogue Magazine. I am proud to have been the person who interviewed Michelle Obama for her first cover story when she became the first lady. That was my highest achievement.

What’s your general view of the fashion industry today?

It is always moving upward and it’s always going to be there and it’s going to survive through all the ups and downs of 2020 and 2021. There’s always going to be fashion as long as you wake up, and get up, and have to leave your house, there’s always going to be someone making fashion. I love the changes I’ve been seeing lately, like the fact that Ugg picked me to be an iconic brand rep. A 72-year-old black man representing their brand—that’s one of the significant changes.

Who have you been paying attention to in the fashion industry?

LaQuan Smith. He’s self-made, self-taught, and he’s sophisticated.

Are Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes Still Dating in January 2021?

Published

on

shawn mendes and camila cabello

How is Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’ year-and-a-half relationship doing in the new year? Great, they’d like you to know. The couple was photographed out walking their dogs in Miami with Cabello’s parents on Saturday. (The family has four canines in all.) They dressed up for the occasion, with Cabello opting for a long peach dress and oversized sweater and Mendes wearing an unbuttoned gray top and blue jeans. Missing from their attire? A face mask, given the pandemic is still ongoing and Miami-Dade County is currently under a public mask mandate.

CAMA, VAEMBACKGRID

Cabello and Mendes aren’t photographed out all that often. They were last shot by paparazzi in mid-November while out in Miami. (They weren’t wearing masks then either.)

Cabello did share a shot of Mendes and her in a hot tub at Christmas. “I’m not good at taking a lot of pictures lately but here’s one good one ❤️” she wrote. “merry Christmas! Thank u Santa for my tall sweet funny boy.” Cabello revealed she was in Mendes’ native Toronto over the holiday in another Instagram shot.

Mendes spoke in early December to SiriusXM Hits 1 Celebrity Session about how he feels being loved by his girlfriend.

“It’s like, it’s like the most, she is completely all in or nothing,” he said. “And I think that’s something that I wasn’t at the beginning of our relationship. And I think that a lot of people maybe are afraid to be all in, because if you’re all in, then you kind of, it hurts it. The blow hurts that much more if it ends, you know? But she really teaches me that if we have one life and we don’t have much time here, it might as well be all in if you’re in love with someone and you’re there. And I kind of learned that every day. She’s so absolutely patient with me, especially when I’m stressed or anything is kind of getting to me. She, she she’ll text me. And if I, if I ever am kind of just being bite-y with her and she’d be like, ‘it’s okay. I love you. No matter what I love you, no matter what.’ And it’s like that that’s real strength and patience and love. But it’s amazing. It’s like a movie.”
